Mr Adam Lacko experienced a great disappointment in Jarama in Spain. Spaniard Antonio Albacete, driving the Buggyra truck, deprived him of a medal position by running into his truck so strongly that he left the racetrack. "It is a pity because I could also have achieved a medal position in the main race again, and it would have been for the third time in this season, after Belgium and Austria," Adam Lacko complained.
In the qualifying race Lacko moved forward from the forth to the second position, and together with Körbr (Buggyra) led the race. Then, for the first time, he started in the main race from the first row, at Körbr's side. After the start, Oestreich from Germany with last year's version of Tatra overtook him but Lacko did not mean to resign and accept the third position. However, afterwards, still in the first lap - the downhill came where Albacete was too late in applying the brakes and, in full drive, he hit Lacko's Tatra, literally running him down - the truck started turning and ended off the asphalt. While the race was over for the Spaniard, Lacko returned to the racetrack and, with a damaged truck, started a fantastic pursuit drive. In the end he achieved the fourth position. Only in the pits it was discovered that Tatra's chassis had been damaged seriously.
Till the last race of the season, Le Mans in France (25 - 26 October), the engineers will be busy repairing the truck.

The youngest racer in the starting field earned deservedly the second position in the 7th race of the European Cup of Super Race Trucks in Zolder (Belgium). He was deprived of the first position by a technical problem at the end of the main race.
Lacko´s performance was already very good in the measured qualification and he finished as 3rd. His main performance came, however, in the main race of the cup. He started from the third position but at the first turning he overtook Albacete and Körber and take lead of the whole starting field. There remain not even one round till the end of the race when there appeared smoke behind his vehicle and the power of his truck was reduced. Thus he was forced to let Oestreich (Germany) overtake him, yet he managed to maintain the second position.
,,It was excellent, but the bad luck makes me feel bitter. I noticed the smoke but I receieved a signal to go on from the depo. I was guarding the leading position all the time. The power of engine had been diminished so I let Oestreich overtake me, as there was no point in preventing him from riding faster. Despite all this I am satisfied. I already was second in Austria so my goal for the new season has been fulfilled twice so far. The loss of the first position will make feel pity for some time though, as I could have heard our national anthem. The fact is that a gasking costing just 5 Czech crowns burst.", commented the happy racer .
,,Adam is the real winner, only due to his bad luck was I able to win, yet he was better on the track.", admitted the winner of the race Markus Oestreich.
Serial is going to continue in Jarama (Spain) on the weekend of 3. - 5. October 2003. The racing special Tatra can be seen by the visitors of TRUCKFEST, which is to take place at the upcoming weekend in the airport in Hradec Kralove.

The dream and great desire of many boys is to become a racing driver while the dream of many girls is to become a princess...
On Monday, 8 September, at least for a little while, members of the Tatra Prima Team, in the vanguard with the Tatra racing truck's driver Mr Adam Lacko, and Ms Jana Prihodova, the patron of the NOVOROZENEC (the new-born) Endowment Fund at the teaching hospital in Hradec Kralove, tried to bring this wish nearer to children - patients. First of all they visited the infantile intensive care ward, headed by associate professor Zdenek Kokstein, and discussed with the parents of one of the children that are treated here. Afterwards, under a beautiful weather, they organized under the auspices of the director of the teaching hospital, associate professor Leos Heger, an action, during which they tried to introduce the world of motor races, fashion shows and beauty contests to the children. They also had small presents and souvenirs ready for all the children. Not only the children but also the parents as well as doctors and nursing staff were exceptionally interested. There were many questions, and so both protagonists of the event were very busy for the whole time of the event. All the participants were given the opportunity to see the exhibited racing trucks as well as dresses.

The last race of European Truck Cup series brought a lot of difficult moments for the young racer. In the last round of European Truck Cup series his front right tire exploded, in spite of this he was able to finish the race at the sixth position. In unbearably hot weather (41oC) a big fight began already at the start of the race in which Tatra sustained a few gashes. Adam Lacko started after the qualification from the fifth position, and due to his excellent start and driving he worked his way on to the fourth position.
"Until the round before the last I was able to maintain easily the fourth position. Then ,suddenly, a loud bang was heard. On the longest straightaway of the circuit my front rigt tire burst while I was driving at the top speed of 160 km. I have never experienced anything similar , yet I managed to react in time to keep the truck on the road and in the right direction. The truck was more and more difficult to manage as it was driving on felly. The rigt turnings were quite OK, but there were problems with the left turnings. Unfortunatelly, about 300 meters before the goal I was overtaken by Luostarinen and Albacete," Adam described the scene. In spite of this he managed to get some points.

Adam Lacko literally shocked both his rivals and spectators in A1 Ring in Austria, where the third race of ETRC series took place. With his truck Tatra he finished the qualification for Super Race Truck category in the third position and then he was second in the Cup race.
And that in spite of the fact that he had fever when he departed to Austria. "Even on Thursday I a had fever of 40 degrees of Celsius and I swallowed a lot of pills. I wanted to participate in the races though I was aware that state of health will be ,apart from my lack of experience, a big handicap. On Saturday prior to the measured training race I felt much better and I finished at the 5th position having managed to beat even the famous Finnish racer Luostarinena," said the youngest racer to have taken part in the race.
On Sunday morning in the qualification race for which points were awarded he drove excellently chasing thge experienced duo Körber - Albacete racing in buggyrs and hence he started the cup race from the second row. In difficult climatic conditions the second racing event of the serial of European Racing Trucks Cup in circuits took place on Sunday. Weather more than 30 degrees of Celsius hot in Misan , situated near the sea, was demanding for both the drivers and their vehicles. In spite of this the youngest racer to take part in this event, Adam Lacko, did very well in the Super Racing Truck category as he finished two races at the 6th position for which he was given some points.
In qualifying rounds he had to stop and drive into stalls as he had exceeded the speed limit. The reason for this was that the traditional system of speed monitoring had been turned off due to maneuvers at the nearby US military base. The measurement of speed was based on telemetry , which got broken in Tatra. This provisional system was not as accurate as the traditional one, which led to penalties. Lacko had an excellent start in the afternoon main race.
He was , however, involved in a collision with the known Finnish racer Luostarinen. The right rear tire of his Tatra was damaged in this collision. Despite this handicap Lacko
Finished this race at sixth position. “ It is a bad luck, yet Adam has again shown that he has all the makings of an excellent racer. He is learning quickly and has the necessary dispositions to win one of the medals in at least one of the races of this racing season . “ said the boss of the team Stanislav Matejovsky.

Adam Lacko, the youngest truck racing driver ever, pleasantly surprised when he finished, with his TATRA JAMAL EVO truck , the Sunday main race in the opening event of the European Racing Truck in the category Super Race Truck at the fourth position. Only fifty meters separated him from the bronze medal. He would have obtained this medal had the race been one round longer. As there exist no ifs in sport, he must be satisfied with the fourth position, which can be considered an excellent achievement taking into account that this was his first race in the truck category.
The Sunday racing day started for the whole team in a dramatic way, because during the training the gear-box was broken resulting in destruction of the engine. Hence Lacko could not take part in the qualifying race. Mechanics, however, managed to repair the vehicle before the afternoon race started, thus proving their excellent skills. During this race a a collision took place when Vrsecky started spinning and Lacko hit him. A few rounds later Vrsecky got his own back on Lacko, when he forced him out of the road. Yet Lacko did not lose his spirits and tried and caught up with the experienced Finn Luostarinen, whom he started tailing.
"Adam was a pleasant surprise. He was able to drive very fast and his performance earned him his rivals respect" praised his performance the boss of Tatra Prima Team, an ex European champion Stanislav Matejovsky. "It could have been better but a scuffle took place at the beginning and it was impossible for me to avoid Vrsecky. Later he sent me skidding out of the road. I , however , returned and all but caught up with Luostarinena. At the end of the race only fifty meters were between me and my goal for this season, which is to win a medal. It will be better next time" Commented modestly Adam Lacko.
The results of the main race 1. Körber (Ger.- BUGGYRA), 2. Oestreich (Ger. - MAN), 3. Luostarinen (Fin.- PAM, ex Tatra), 4. Lacko (TATRA JAMAL EVO IV).

For the first time this year the race team led by Stanislav Matìjovskı used autodrome in Most . There were a few reasons for it. The main one was the first, though short Friday testing, in other words the first rounds in a racing circuit, which should bring the fruit of the work done in the past month. The first kilometers showed that experience and knowledge gained in the last years, which were really importantduring the building of the new vehicle were correct and that some progress was made.
On Saturday a meeting between the team and employees and guests of Dell-computer took place. The latter had the opportunity to try and find out how it feels to be a co-driver in both Tatra and pick up on this circuit. The guests showed a great interest in the racing truck and in its technical properties and so an important part of the meeting was "inspection" of the vehicle accompanied with technical explanations. Also the weather clearly indicated that winter was definitely over and the spring was starting together with the new season. The sunny Saturday afternoon was topped with afternoon raut.
Tatra driven by Adam Lacko wil be tested in Most racing circuit again frrom April 1st to April 3rd 2003.

As the term of the beginning of the new season of European cup of trucks is approaching, the preparation of our team is also approching its end.. All the efforts are made with the aim to maintain the planned schedule. This time is hectic for every team and it si up to each single person involved to do his best , whether they are a team member or supplier of varius parts of the vehicle or equipment. Of course, most of the work must be done on the Tatra which will be differet from the one of the last year. The change in design of the vehicle is apparent at the first sight and it seems to be more aerodynamic. The first impression is very important and hence the enamel used plays also an important part. Even though this may not seem important , it is a plain fact. The enamels applied to the racing car and the accompanying technics is this year provided by Mikos company (www.mikos.cz) for the first time, which is the exclusive importer of enamels for cars R-M to the Czech republic. Other changes and adjustments can be called the "sectret of production" and every manufacturer of cars keeps them secret.
The transportation technique and the team background contributes a lot to the image of the team. All the teams, whatever motorist discipline they are involved in, putm a great emphasis on that. We managed to improve our background by starting cooperating with company Paragan (www.paragan.cz). We were always very particular about the quality of our background and about the excellent conditions during the races. Joining with this new partner has meant a further big step forward. The first set, which will accompany our racing team throught out Europe , was handed over on 27th February 2003 in the firms premises in Hranice na Morave. I was very pleasant to find out that excellent job had been done and that the firm ranks among the best in its field of specialization.
Everybody is looking forward to the first test races in the motor racing circuit near the town of Most. Adam Lacko underwent physical preparations throughout the winter so that he could control his vehicle as well as possible and was able to exploit fully its qualities.
There are still many objectives to be fulfilled and it sometimes seems that 24 hour is too a short time for the working day. We hope, that when we start to race, we will not get lost on the track.

At the beginning of this year the book of Dalibor Janek ´´Champions of steering wheel´´ has been published. It resembles racing and life stories and results of top Czech car racers (of Enge, Matejovsky, Kopecky, Kramsky, Krest, Triner, Hosek, Sibera, Michl, Micanek, Loprais.). It is a very interesting book mainly for fans of car sport who get there the opportunity to have a look into the "cockpit" to understand how long and difficult is the way onto the winner´s stage.
Author himself started like car racer and tried all disciplines - competitions, races on circuits and Up-hill races, actively went through the beginnings of autocross in our country. He was a -Champion of Czech Republic for several times, and for long time he used to be a journalist in magazine "The World of Engines" and there you may still find his articles. He is the author of ten books with car ideas, e.g. Quickly and safely, Happy Frantisek, Dusty Circuits, Hot Steering Wheel, Steel plate loves etc.
Publication ´´Champions of steering wheel´´ includes tens of interesting colourful photographs printed on high quality chalk paper in strong binding.
You may buy the book in many bookstores or directly at the publisher Computer Press, Brno, Namesti 28.dubna no. 18, or on the address www.knihy.cpress.cz

Dear supporters of Tatra Truck Racing Team, I am addressing you for the first time this year in order to look back at the past period and also to present our plans for the next season. It is the first time that I am speaking to you not as a racer, but as the leader of the team. The goal of our team is to be as successful in the next season as we were in the past ones, especially in 2001, when I won The European Championship with my Tatra.
Last year we finished, in cooperation with Tatra Koprivnice and many other partners, a 3-year project. In its second year we achieved the pinnacle of this sport branch by winning the European Championship.
Tatra now ranks among the internationally recognized brands and I have managed to fulfill my great dream as a racer. It is really not possible to achieve more in this sport branch. Last year, though I did not managed to win the European Championship again for various reasons, can be considered successful. Our trucks took part in races that took place at European racing tracks and they proved to be tough competitions for the best European racers. I would like to thank all those who helped realize this project which, primarily due to the support from the management of Tatra Koprivnice and many other partners, will be continued.
I want to pay special attention to our new, this time a two-year program. Let me start with the members of the racing team. The youngest racer ever will sit behind the wheel of Tatra. 18 years old Adam Lacko proved himself during the test-races and he has experience of ten years. In the last two years he participated successfully in the most prestigious race with Octavia. If I was not convinced of his qualities and talent, would have chosen him to be my successor.
Michal Matejovsky, who is 17 now, will be a test driver. I literally led my son from his very beginning as a racer and I certainly was not lenient toward him. He drove Tatra last season, but, more importantly, he raced with a pick-up and this year he is going to race in Octavia. The first test races of our team will take place at the end of this March at the track in Most.
The new car is being manufactured in Koprivnice. It will bear the name Tatra Jamal EVO IV. It will have a new frame, a new wheel frame. In addition it will have a new truck manufactured by JK - Product from Hradec Kralove and will be equipped with a new engine. The color will remain yellow. I will introduce it together with our team, which comprises the same members as it did before apart from the above mentioned changes, in hotel Ambassador in Prague, which is one of our partners, in April. Technical background is being prepared by company PARAGAN ( www.paragan.cz ) and I must acknowledge that they are coping with it perfectly.
Last season I devoted primarily to testing of new elements and I expect this to bring good results this year. Adam Lacko should spend the first half of the season by learning and acquiring experience. In the second one he should try to gain some points and a leading position. Our goal for the year 2004, when our project reaches its climax, is to win the European Championship. It is certainly a difficult goal, but we can't set ourselves a lesser one.
Our team has its interests not only in Europe, but also over the ocean. After prolonged discussions an agreement on realization of races of trucks in the USA is about to be reached. It is going to be a series of races in which should take part both trucks known from the European tracks and trucks from the USA. We have been working on realization of this idea for quite long. I want to take part in the races in the race in the USA, but only within the framework of this project.
We have prepared yet one more change, The leadership of the team has moved to the new premises. We are gradually rebuilding an ex subsidiary of CSAD Hradec Kralove into a modern truck center, which should cater not only for our team. SMTC, which stands for Stanislav Matejovskı Truck Center ( www.smtc.cz ), is situated just behind the big roundabout, beside the road leading to Ostrava, Olomouc and Svitavy. SMTC is the third base of our team. The main one is situated in Tatra Koprivnice and the other in The Vocational School in Litomysl.
These is, in a nutshell, rudimentary information about our projects for this and the following years. I believe that you will keep you fingers crossed for us and that the results achieved by our team will bring you pleasure.
Stan Matejovsky
